Leftovers of the Croque Monsieur/Madame
Now that I had made the Croque Monsieur/Madame, I had to figure out what to do with the materials I had left.
Now I'm a big fan in utilizing what I had.
So I had sauteed some onions till they were opaque, chopped some mushrooms in one small pan.
I had soaked some bread in the egg mix (that had garlic powder, minimal nutmeg and minimal cinnamon) and the usual salt and pepper.
I then placed the soaked bread on top of the stove top grill.
Once both sides of the french toast were cooked somewhat thorough, I then topped each bread slice with the Gruyere while I placed the ham slices on the grill as well to crisp up.
Once the bread was crisp I put the ham on slice, and I put the onion and mushroom mix onto the other. Then placed them together.
Needless to say it's a sloppy 'grilled' sandwich.
The boyfriend did enjoy this rendition. So much so, that we may experiment and use a different cheese.
Would I cook this again? Sure.

Oh, Amy, this looks delicious. I cook many grilled cheese sandwiches myself (of course), but I'm always afraid to use a bechamel when I do. This makes me less fearful.
ReplyDeleteAlso, fontina = yum.
